The safe use of mechanical restraints has been in the news frequently over the last few years, with some high-profile cases that have brought scrutiny from legislators, the media and pressure groups. It’s therefore essential that individuals who may need to use mechanical restraints have the correct training.

Aimed at learners who have already gained an SIA licence, along with civil enforcement and community safety accredited persons, the qualification has been designed to allow them to expand their knowledge in the use of mechanical restraints in a safe and lawful manner, while covering the law and legislation around their use.

Course Content:

• Understand the types of mechanical restraint (handcuffs)
• Understand the law and good practice guidelines in relation to the use of mechanical restraints (handcuffs)
• Understand the importance of safe working practices and how to respond to medical difficulties
• Understand post-incident considerations and the importance of reporting
• Be able to safely apply and remove mechanical restraints (handcuffs) to a compliant subject
• Be able to safely apply and remove mechanical restraints (handcuffs) to a non-compliant subject

Entry Requirements:

• Must be 18 years or older

• Must hold a valid SIA Door Supervisor or Close Protection Licence

• Must be proficient in spoken and written English

• Must be physically capable of participating in practical scenarios

• Previous experience in security, military, custodial, or law enforcement is beneficial but not required
